Capibaras project - Field work
Between 25th and 29th July 2016, EBAC had participated in the activities of FAPESP's Thematic Project "Capybaras, Ticks and Spotted Fever", coordinated by Professor Marcelo Labruna - FMVZ. The PhD student Ana Maria Nievas has a project that is part of this Thematic project, under supervision of Professor Patricia Monticelli from EBAC. In both projects, a capture of small and large mammals happened in the USP's Preservation Area - in Ribeirão Preto, and have collected biological material for analyzing the presence of Amblyomma spp ticks, and Rickettsia rickettsii , agent of Brazilian Spotted Fever's disease. All animals have been returned to nature after the procedures, which is authorized by SISBIO and CEUA. The Laboratory of Ethology and Bioacoustics also has the specific aim of studying the capybaras interpersonal relations, connecting their social structure with movement patterns and alomaternal care.
